Appreciation from Recipients
Luke Heinzen,2008 James J. Hill Signature Scholarship Recipient and 2009 Renewal Recipient
Attending University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
“I would not be where I am now without the enormous assistance of Minnesota Masonic Charities through the Signature Scholarship. The financial support made it possible to attend college...it gave me a feeling of safety and I was able to concentrate on making myself the best that I could be in order to give back to the world later in life. Growth simply cannot occur without some sort of investment. I hope this first year proves that someday your investment will make you proud, that you can say you helped this man get to where he is, all because of the incredible compassion a group of people had in giving hopeful students an opportunity to change the world."
Erica Kyriakides, 2009 Hubert H. Humphrey Signature Scholarship Recipient
Attending University of Wisconsin, Madison
"Brotherly love, relief and truth. I consider these values to be among the main components to a life worth living. My father, who frequently talks to me about his experiences in the Masonic fraternal organizations, has been instrumental in my understanding of living and applying the principles one believes in. These values have helped me live a better and more useful life. Hubert H. Humphrey's values placed his family first. The fact that he was able to do that and still continue to follow his dreams and become recognized as one of the influential political and business leaders in America's time is an inspiration that I cannot deny. I feel very fortunate to have received this award. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity."
Simon Kern, 2008 Robert and Alta Van Tries Masonic Legacy Recipient and 2009 Renewal Recipient
Attending South Dakota State University
"I would like to thank Minnesota Masonic Charities for selecting me for this scholarship… I was able to achieve my goal of a 4.0 GPA while being enrolled in 19 credit hours both fall and spring semesters. This scholarship opened up outside of the classroom experiences to me as well. I was able to compete at the North American International Livestock Exposition with my 4-H dairy quiz bowl team where we placed first in the nation as a team and I placed first individually. I thank you for this very generous scholarship; my college experience wouldn’t be the same without it."
